Watford have completed the signing of Nathan Ake on a season long loan from Chelsea, the club confirms.

The twenty-year old spent a small part towards the end of last season on loan to Championship outfit Reading, and has recently been linked with a return to the Madejski, in addition to the ever strengthening Middlesbrough.

The highly rated defender featured five times for the Premier League champions last season, after arriving from Dutch side Feyenoord in 2011 as a youth player.

Ake is a star of the Netherlands U21s team, having made thirteen appearances for the side since 2013, scoring two goals.

In addition to the Under 21s, he has featured for the U15s, U16s, U17s and U19s on several occasions.

However, despite ‘Den Haag’ born Ake being part of the Netherlands set up , he fits into the bracket of being a ‘homegrown’ player, having been with Chelsea for several years and making a rise through their academy set up, something which is a credibility to Flores’ squad.

There is not yet a sign that Ake will be thrown straight into the team as the Hornets host West Brom tomorrow, but there is a slight possibility.

The Dutchman is the eleventh signing the Hornets have made this summer, only their first loan signing of the summer transfer window.

Prior to his loan move to the Hornets, Ake has secured his long term future with the Blues, after he signed a lucrative five year deal.
