Watford have completed the signing of Dutch winger, Steven Berghuis, from AZ Alkmaar on a four year deal, confirms the club.

A signing which has been welcomed with opened arms by the Hornets supporters has finally been made an official Watford player, arriving from AZ Alkmaar for a reported fee around the £4.6m mark.

The signing of Berghuis is no surprise to the Hornets supporters, with AZ Alkmaar confirming the twenty-three year old was poised to sign for Watford, over the past couple of days.

Born in Apeldoorn, Netherlands, Berghuis became a pro after rising through the ranks at Eredivisie side FC Twente in 2011, making twenty-five appearances for the Tukkers in his first season, scoring three goals.

He had a loan spell at fellow Dutch side, VVV Venlo in 2012, before switching over to AZ Alkmaar in the summer.

During his first season with ‘The Cheese Farmers’, he made twenty-five appearances without scoring a goal, but it was the following season of 2013-14 which was more promising for him, as he scored nine in thirty-five.

Last season, Berghuis scored a goal which averaged out at a goal per every two games, with him finding the net on eleven occasions, out of twenty-two.

Berghuis is a predominant right winger, but can play on the left if called upon.

This is a very exciting capture for Watford, at a fairly cheap price based on his performances for AZ Alkmaar last season, still got plenty of years left in the tank too.

Berghuis now joins the list of Watford additions this summer alongside, Sebastian Prodl, Giedrius Arlauskis, Etienne Capoue, Allan Nyom, Jurado, Matej Vydra, Jose Holebas, Valon Behrami and Miguel Britos.

Welcome, Steven..
