It might come a massive shock to some of our regular VitalWatford visitors (close your ears Dirk Thrust) but Watford boss Malky Mackay has thrown a whole heap of praise at “fantastic” Hornets midfielder Don Cowie.

The Scottish international midfielder has rarely hit the heights of his debut first season south of the border after being plucked for SPL outfit Inverness Caledonian Thistle last year and, in recent weeks, has started to find himself on the end of the boo-boys frustration.

But he has found comfort in the fellow tartan arms of Malky Mackay who, despite dropping Don to the bench for the trip to Deepdale over Easter, stated “Don is clever, he is very fit and his quality at deadball situations shines through“.

The gaffer added that The Cow`s performance at home to Plymouth was “impressive”i> (he does have a point – it was notably better than recent weeks) but hinted that maybe, just maybe fans haven`t seen the full Cowie effect, stating “Sometime`s he`s been in the shade of Tom [Cleverley] and Henri Lansbury.”

Let`s face it though with those 2 pretentious Premier League youngsters around hogging the limelights, it`s no wonder that Cowie and co fell back into the shadows.

However, now is the time to step up to the plate.

Does Malky have a point?
Has Cowie been overshadowed by the kids this year?
Was Don`s performance against Plymouth a marked improvement?
