Watford head coach Marco Silva has said that Troy Deeney will not be leaving the club this January window.

With plenty of speculation linking him with a move away in the summer transfer window – mainly to Leicester – with the January window opening a few days back, speculation has again centred around the skipper but he remains an important part in Silva’s plans.

Speaking to Sky Sports to address the latest rumours, Silva was adamant that he didn’t want to lose the player and he rubbished suggestions that we were open to offers and intended to replace him with Bournemouth’s Benik Afobe.

‘No offers in the club about Troy Deeney. At this moment Troy Deeney is able to play finally, able to play or be in the squad if I take that decision. Of course the last ten matches have not been easy, he was only involved in three of them and the only thing new about Troy Deeney is that he is able to be in the squad if I take this decision tomorrow.’

Pressed about his future and this month, he went on to say.

‘He was here in the morning, I am sure he will be here tomorrow and what I can tell you is that all the players that the club want to keep will stay at the club in January. All the players I want to keep will stay, of course Troy is an important player for us.’
