The decision to bench Troy Deeney for Watford’s defeat at Tottenham on Saturday has reportedly raised ‘tension’ between player and manager, Walter Mazzarri.
It’s claimed, it must be stressed only by the Daily Mail after all, Deeney’s disappointment could end with the Watford boss pushing the Hornets captain ‘closer to the exit’.
Deeney, under contract until 2021, was recently linked with an end of season move to Premier League rivals West Brom – a move played down, but not completely denied or ruled out, by both clubs.
The Mail claims Mazzarri’s decision to leave Deeney out of the starting line up at White Hart Lane was due to his ‘physical condition’ but the 28 year old, brought on with 20 minutes to go with Watford already four nil down, didn’t agree with the stance.
Mazzarri’s apparent retort was for Deeney to ‘respect’ his decisions… is it just me, perhaps it is just me and how my mind works, but can anyone else not help but think Cartman, from South Park, and his ‘respect my authoritah’ spiel when imagining this so-called showdown between Deeney and Mazzarri?
Anyway, I digress…
The outcome? Well, as the Mail seems to think Everton, Leicester and West Brom have ‘looked at Deeney’ before the suggestion is they could be among the clubs ‘keeping an eye’ on the situation as the saying goes.
