Cov turn to Boothroyd?

The boredom of the off-season has well and truly set in around VitalWatford towers, and with no imminent deals being done at the Vic` it`s time to turn our attentions to business outside of WD18.

Former Hornet`s manager Aidy Boothroyd, currently working his long-ball magic down at Colchester United of League One, is odds-on with SkyBet to land the vacant manager`s post with perennial underachievers Coventry City. The odds on the 39 year-old were cut drastically from 10-1 to 1-4 on following a flurry of bets from ‘accounts set up specifically to back Boothroyd to join the Sky Blues`, said spokesperson Helen Jacobs.

In a ‘non knee-jerk` reaction to the trashing that Malky Mackay`s Goldenboys handed out at a half-empty Ricoh Arena on the final day of the season chairman Ray Ranson called time on Chris ‘Cookie` Coleman`s disappointing tenure with the Midlanders.

And, if reports are to be believed the former Leeds, Norwich and Peterborough coach is in line to be the next Sky Blues manager having failed to guide the U`s into the League One Play-Offs after a blistering start to his second managerial job back in September.

Another ex-Hornet in the news is ‘keeper Ben Foster who spent two massively successful years at the Vic` on loan from Premier League runners-up, Manchester United.

The former Stoke City ‘keeper has today joined Birmingham City for an undisclosed fee, believed to be in the region of £6m after a less than convincing final season at Old Trafford. Despite starting the season as No.1 ahead of Tomasz Kuszczack and the injured Edwin Van Der Sar, Foster was soon dropped following a number of high-profile errors including a couple in the Manchester derby at the Theatre of Dreams.

It has to be said that at 27 years old, the one-cap England international needs to be playing regular football if he is ever to live up to the enormous potential shown on loan in WD18. A move to mid-to-top half battlers Birmingham represents a challenge not a million miles away from that he faced at Watford where Foster was a lot busier over the course of 90 minutes than with Sir Alex`s Red Devils.
