Choices, choices for Graham

Golden Graham has a few choices on his hands this summer; Vital Watford explores

If Queens Park Rangers come back with an improved offer for Danny Graham then the former Carlisle United frontman has a big decision to make regarding his future.

To be fair to the Gateshead-born goal-getter, he strikes me as a fairly sensible young man with his head screwed on. Certainly if his Twitter feed is anything to go by (@dawgraham10) if you`re a Twitter active ‘Orn not following him already.

The decision in question is what club to join, it seems highly likely already that the ‘Boro trainee will be off and that is to be expected but he has maintained all along that he is only interested in joining a Premier League club:

‘If that happens, it happens. If not, and another Championship club comes in, I’m not interested.

‘I want to be a Premiership player, I’m not going to hide the fact, but we’ll see what happens.’ Graham told BBC Sport

Of course QPR are now a Premier League club but it would be a mistake joining Neil Warnock`s men for two reasons.

First and foremost; he could do better. How much of the speculation surrounding Graham is paper talk we don`t know, but Newcastle are believed to be interested. If that calibre of club is chasing your services then you`ve surely got to back yourself and hold out for an offer from an established top-flight club.

Any club in the lower to middle half of the table is always going to be looking to take a punt on a good Football League player. They can`t afford the crème-de-la-creme of players so they have to take chances on young or unproven players from lower leagues. SuperDan fits into that category.

Secondly, QPR are surely going to be amongst the favourites to go back down at the first attempt. Graham has said over and over that he`s only interested in leaving the club if a Premier League side after him. QPR may be that, but they are going to do well to hold onto that status.

Obviously if nobody but a promoted side comes in for Golden Graham then I`d understand him moving to Loftus Road as we`re not going to get promoted any time soon. I would however hope he gets a move to an established side as much for his sake as our own – we don`t want him hampering our ambitions from afar in the future afterall!
