Watford confirmed yesterday that midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah was set for surgery following a training ground injury.

The player picked up the knee problem last week during training and having been sent for a scan on his left knee, and being supported by a surgical brace, the decision has been taken to send the 22 year old under the knife.

The worry is he may now miss the rest of the campaign as he completes the rehabilitation process.

Having come in from Chelsea for £5.5million over the summer, he had largely hit the ground running at Watford so it will be a blow.

The Official Site quote Performance Director Gavin Benjafield.

‘Whilst we can`t put an exact timeline on his recovery, we are expecting to see him re-integrating into the squad well before the New Year.’
