Johan Cavalli is delighted to have joined Watford before the transfer deadline and he aims to stay beyond his initial 18-month deal.

The 25-year-old, who joined the Hornets on a free transfer from French second division club Istres on January 31, made his debut in Saturday’s vital 1-0 victory against West Ham at Upton Park. And the Frenchman says he is pleased with his decision to move to Vicarage Road, while also targeting a long-term future in England.

He told the club’s official website: ‘At the beginning of January, Watford let me know that they wanted to take a look at me over here but it was difficult to do so earlier in the month.

‘Seeing that I really wanted to leave France, I was really pleased to get a call on the day before the window closed to invite me over here.

‘I travelled on that day and everything went really well so I signed almost immediately. It was all very simple in the end.’

Johan had a good game on Saturday against West Ham and looks a cultured player. A complete reverse of what we are used to. I bet it will take him all of two games before he gets fustrated at the way we play and turns himself into Vinnie Jones.
