Despite the fact most local papers in Wales seem to think Malky to Cardiff is a done deal, this is far from the case although Cardiff are expected to make an official approach for the Hornets boss.

Watford FC have confirmed the statement made about their being on official approaches stands despite rumours in Wales that Mackay had already had an interview.

The Watford Observer reported that sources close to the Welsh club are convinced Mackay is the owner’s number one choice for the managerial hot seat and expect an official approach to be immanent.

Then it is left up to Hornets owner Laurence Bassini to decide if he is willing to let Malky speak with Cardiff after agreeing compensation, about 300,000 is rumoured to be offered.

Just Friday saw Bassini in an interview with the WO state that Mackay is instrumental to the way Watford works and has no intention of letting him go.

From what we have seen of Malky in the six years he has been at the club it is unlikely he will orchestrate a move if the approach is rejected so it is left for Bassini to win some brownie points with the sceptic Watford faithful following last weeks departures.
