Just before midday came the news that had been in the air since the beginning of last week. Watford have confirmed Cardiff City have made an official approach for manager Malky Mackay who was rumoured to be the board’s number one choice for the vacant position since former manager Dave Jones was relieved of his duties.

However, Hornets owner Laurence Bassini has refused them permission to speak to the Hornets supremo and reiterated his position on the Mackay saga. In a statement on the official website Bassini stated ‘We don’t want Malky to leave Watford and we will do everything in our power to keep him at Vicarage Road’
