Lionel Ainsworth`s 2nd spell with Hereford lasted just 48 hours after the pint sized winger saw his loan spell from Watford cut short through injury.

The former Bulls frontman was welcomed back to Edgar Street with open arms after the League 1 strugglers had a 1-month loan offer accepted by the Hornets last Friday.

However, with just 90 minutes under his belt, fans favourite Ainsworth – who made just 8 starts in 12 months for Watford – returns to the Vicarage Road treatment room to determine the extent of a knee injury sustained in Saturday`s 2-0 defeat to Northampton.

Speaking to the Bulls News, manager Graham Turner said “Losing Lionel is a bitter blow. He will miss tonight [at MK Dons] and I think that he could miss quite a few games.”

He added “He jarred his knee in a tackle and hopefully we will have some more news in the next 24 hours”.

Hereford fans had hoped that Ainsworth ‘would carry on where he`d left off` and that his ‘power, pace and effervescene` would have been the masterstroke that kickstarted the Bulls battle to stay in League 1.

Oh, the disappointment.
