Brighton have this afternoon completed the £1m signing of Watford winger Will Buckley.

The deal includes a 15% sell-on clause for the former Rochdale man, should the Seagulls sell him on for more than the initial fee.

Watford had previously rejected two offers from Gus Poyet’s newly-promoted side for the 21 year-old winger but a third offer proved impossible to turn down.

Speaking to the Brighton Official site Poyet said:

‘When we played Watford in the FA Cup last season, I watched three or four of their games and Will was the one player who really impressed.

‘Our scouts have also been watching him and have also been impressed. That made it a very easy decision.’

‘Bucko’ arrived from Spotland in January 2010 for a fee of 300k and featured sporadically towards the seasons end.

Last season Buckley made 37 league appearances though he contributed just four goals and as many assists.

Buckley was dropped by Malky Mackay on a number of occasions, most notably post Christmas and in the Autumn though he was superb during the Hornet’s seven-match winning streak over Christmas.

In total, Buckley made 31 league appearances for the club, scoring five goals.

Good luck Will!
