Braveheart Watford boss, Malky Mackay, has insisted that the Hornets “better quality” finally put pay to Barnet in last night`s last gasp Carling Cup win…

…even though it took over 106 minutes for that ‘quality` to find it`s way across Hertfordshire to Underhill!

Fans have rightly questioned certain aspects of the Hornets performance – with the lacklustre midfield, lack of creativity and, was that the return of the dreaded ‘Hoof`ball?, receiving plenty of flak – but the gaffer has heaped praise on his side, suggesting they deserve “full credit”.

Ol` Braveheart told the ‘fficial site “Full credit to our boys for coming here and matching the energy and the effort that Barnet showed…eventually the better quality [of the players] that we had showed through”.

Seems a strange and yellow-tinted post-match outlook given that the League Two Bees bossed large parts of the game against a pretty strong Watford line-up that Barnet boss Ian Hendon dubbed “a decent side”.

The good news is, though, that Malky did go on to admit that “we can play better than that…” which will come as a relief to many fans who, let`s face it, have been sick of spin over the last 18 months.

Still, a win is a win so roll on Round 2.
