Bassini showing his true colours

Laurence Bassini has surpassed himself these last few days, here’s my take.

Owner Laurence Bassini has revealed his true colours conintually since Tuesday evening and I for one have no confidence in the man to continue running our football club on any level.

From withdrawing from the fans forum an hour before it started, when, let’s face it, 90% of the attendees were there to question a man who continues to remain a complete mystery to us supporters – EIGHT months into his ownership of this football club.

Bassini states a pre-exisiting issue in his ‘apology’, it could even be mildly serious from what he says, and if this is the case why an earth did he not make his concerns clear sooner?

In his latest drivel to the Watford Observer he says he has been to Vicarage Road once in 11 days and missed both the ‘Boro and Brighton games. Fine, health is very important, but out of courtesy would it really hurt to let the event organizers know in advance that you are ‘doubtful’.

Since then, Bassini has done nothing other than prove Graham Taylor correct in what he said on Tuesday. Taylor said Bassini ‘makes decisions on a whim’ and that ‘reliability is not his strong point.’ Well, in the last 24 hours we’ve seen three clear examples of Mr Bassini’s unreliability and whimsical decision-making.

Whether or not there was ever any truth in the statement that he would ‘withdraw the £1m funding’ the club needs to survive the next month is debatable, especially off such a quick climb-down.

That threat stinks of a last-ditch attempt to force Taylor out the club having failed to smoke him out with his ‘intention to resign’.

The treatment of Taylor has been nothing short of disgraceful and I personally would hold no gripe with Taylor whatsoever if he was to walk away. The man is s pensioner and at this football club, a legend. He should not be forced to dance to Mr Bassini’s tune and if he doesn’t want to keep helping the club out then he should take Elton John’s stance, walk away a legend, and enjoy his retirement.

For the record, I believe Taylor was 100% correct to share his candid thoughts on Mr Bassini at the fans’ forum. If he hadn’t of we would have still been left naively under the guise that all is fine.

I for one am stating my non-confidence in Mr Bassini, a man who has snaked around this football club in a secretive bordering on hostile manner, showing a lack of respect for it’s supporters and legendary chairman.
