Thomas Vermaelen, a forgotten man at Barcelona since his arrival from Arsenal, is surplus to requirements at the Nou Camp, with Watford and Southampton credited with an interest, according to Read Southampton.

Crediting Spanish newspaper Sport, it was stated recently appointed Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde doesn’t have room for the Belgium international, much like his predecessor Luis Enrique, in his squad.

Impressive during his time at Arsenal, yet still suffering with injury setbacks, Vermaelen has struggled to make an impact at the Nou Camp, largely due to his inability to remain fit, but you can say he’s proven in the Premier League.

Barcelona are reportedly keen on Watford, Southampton and Italian club Torino, all previously linked, to revive interest in Vermaelen, who would make a good addition to Marco Silva’s squad – providing he could stay fit.

Now, that could prove the trickiest bit of all.
