Watford have confirmed they will step up their pre-season preparations when the first team jet off to Barcelona in July – but sadly it appears to be less Nou Camp and more ‘training camp` for the lads.

The Hornets have lined up a high intensity tour of sun, sea, sangria and er, Stuart Searle during the close season ending with a friendly against “good level Spanish opposition” on July 21st.

Somehow we feel “good level” is hardly fitting enough for the La Liga (and hopefully Champions League) winning world class talents of Messi, Henry, Eto`o or Iniesta is it now?

The likelihood is that Watford will face a side of the caliber of Unio Esportiva Lleida – who play in the 3rd tier of Spanish football and were once managed by Juande Ramos – and whom the Hornets are likely to have borrowed the training facilities of!

Elsewhere, and the pre-season calendar looks less Catalan and more Matalan with low cost, budget ties against Borehamwood, Wealdstone, Hampton & Richmond and St Albans already penciled in.

Boring!!!!

The only friendly on home turf at Vicarage Road remains a mystery but speculation is mounting that it could be Chelsea (obviously) or even a money spinner against Inter Milan (thanks to the Mourinho connections)?

Still anything`s better than MK Dons – heaven forbid!
