Daniel Bachmann was deemed surplus to requirements at Stoke as our Premier League rivals released the Austrian at the end of his contract at the bet365 Stadium.

There’s a good future ahead for the goalkeeper though in the eyes of Marco Silva as he handed Bachmann a three year deal when snapping him up on a free recently.

Now settling in to his new life at Watford the keeper has enjoyed his early spell at Vicarage Road saying it was ‘brilliant to be here.’

Bachmann told the Official Website: ‘It’s brilliant to be here. I`m really excited and I`m glad everything got done quite quickly. I`m just pleased to be here now and it`s been a good start over the first couple of days.’

Austrian U21 international Bachmann will now compete with Watford number one Heurelho Gomes.

However, as much as Bachmann, 22, and Gomes will be rivals for this spot the keeper knows how important it is to work alongside the Brazilian shot-stopper and aims to learn much from him.

‘Keepers like that are just brilliant to work with, not just on the pitch but off the pitch too. I`ve only known him for a couple of days but I can learn a lot of things from him, which is brilliant for me and I just have to try and take everything on board.’

Gomes should start the season as Watford’s first choice with Bachmann the future.
