Gaffer: Another first-time manager in ex-Scotland international Dougie Freedman who took over from flailing fellow countryman, George Burley last season.

Despite a slow start to his maiden managerial post, the former Eagles hitman saw his side improve to retain their Championship status once more.

Position 10/11: 20th place, and safety, which was the ultimate aim after Burley was sacked following a dismal 3-0 defeat by rival Millwall during the festive period.

In: Mile Jedinak (free transfer) and Kagisho Dikgacoi (Fulham, undisc.).

Out: Adam Barrett (Bournemouth, undisc.) and Neil Danns (released).

Star Player: Winger-cum-forward Darren Ambrose who has become the Eagles key man since his arrival from rivals Charlton in 2009.

In two seasons at Selhurst Park the former Ipswich Town and Newcastle United man has struck 22 times from 71 league starts – impressive considering he missed much of last season with injury.

Best Business: Keeping the aforementioned talisman, Ambrose. It was always expected that the 27 year-old would move onto pastures new this summer, but thus far, he hasn’t.

Prediction: Money is tight and with a small squad ,packed with young home-grown players (sound familiar?!), it will be a season of fighting off relegation for Palace.
