See what VitalWatford made of our striker’s 2010/11 season
9. Troy Deeney: Well it`s easy to say that the summer`s only cash outlay hasn`t paid back the alleged 500k we forked out for him, but the signs are there. Shoved out with for the majority of the season, Deeney evidently found it hard to get a run in the side thanks to the form of Marvin Sordell. However, as a hard-worker he carved something of a niche out for himself as a hard-working wide-man opposed to the traditional ‘winger`. By the end of the season he had grown into the role and although I don`t think his long-term future lies there, I think he will be our main forward next season with Danny Graham surely off in the coming weeks. He looks a good foil for Sordell too; big, strong and clearly comfortable as a targetman the tools are there for me with Deeney it`s just the opportunities. 6/10chrisgwfc Says: Troy Deeney – 7 A lot of expectation at the start of the season considering he was our only major buy in the summer but thanks to Sordell’s form struggled to get a match until January. Looked a bit out of place on the right/left wing at first but has grown into the role and has ended the season strongly.
10. Danny Graham: What can you say that hasn`t already been said? He`s been sublime, and that`s the word for it. Hard-working, diligent, committed and above all, a team-player, Graham has been the stand-out player at the club and will surely move on after 24 league goals, 27 in all competitions. What was telling for the former Carlisle man is that he never suffered a drought. The past two seasons (at Carlisle and his first with us) have both had long barren-spells. This season – nothing. Goals brought confidence and vice-versa and SuperDan was rightfully named player of the season. 10/10chrisgwfc Says: Danny Graham – 10 Outstanding season. 27 goals to date a few assists works tirelessly really stepped up this season to be one of the leaders.
20. Marvin Sordell: It`s been an excellent breakthrough season for Marv, and despite being dropped post-Christmas for a good few weeks, he ended the season well with two stormers at Leicester City in an otherwise disappointing defeat. Clearly Sordell will have to step-up again next season with Graham as good as off, the nippy young forward will have to mature once more as he takes on more first-team responsibility. A couple of criticisms: he is often selfish and often fails to get his head up, but I`m not too worried as these are things that often plague youngsters and he will doubtless improve on his team-work with further first-team experience. 7/10chrisgwfc Says:Marvin Sordell – 8
First full season at this level, has adapted very well scoring 15 goals. He is prone to be lazy though and sulk if things aren’t going his way.
22. Andi Weimann: He came with big expectations, mainly from Villa fans who had seen the young forward fleetingly in first-team action, and to a degree the ability is there. Weimann works hard, chases down lost causes and looks like a selfless player who gets in the right positions. Sure there are things to work on but Weimann has some potential and we could well see him back next season albeit on loan again. 6/10
27. Gavin Massey: Next season may see Massey involved more than his handful of substitute appearances this season and who knows? We may have another Marvin Sordell on our hands. The similarities are there – both fairly slight though Massey definitely the most lithe, and both pacey and raw. N/A
